|Personal History||Valok's childhood was in a word, rough. Being a child of both a Vulcan and Betazoid, he constantly struggled to blend both sides of his heritage. His father wanted him to focus on logic and controlling his emotions, while his mother encouraged him to explore every moment fully. This dichotomy eventually led to their divorce. After that happened, he was shuffled between homes, spending a few years on Vulcan, then Betazed, then back. He never really had a lot of close friends because of his transient life. His revelation to his parents as being gay didn't help his strained relationships with them, as they had begun seeking out a wife for him to settle down with.
Eventually, when he was of age, he made a decision to enroll in university on Earth. His time at New York State University taught him a lot about himself, and the greater universe around him. After eventually graduating with his Phd in Medicine, he spent 5 years working in a public hospital on Bajor. After some soul searching and strong encouragement, he decided to apply to Starfleet Academy. Neither of his parents agreed with the decision, both having already planned his future for him. After failing his first entrance exam, he tried again, and was accepted.
After graduating, he spent 3 years working as an Assistant Medical Officer on the USS Hera, and after being promoted to Lieutenant Junior Grade, was reassigned to the USS Galavant as Assistant Chief Medical Officer. Over the next 2 years he learned a lot about the position, and upgraded his command courses. He then transferred to the USS Torando-C as Chief Medical Officer.
