Personality & Traits
|General Overview||Serranstivlen presents himself in a very stoic fashion. He is cold and calculated, and very rarely expresses any emotion. Attempts by himself to emulated his half-ancestors on Vulcan have been mostly successful, but thanks to inspiration from his father he also finds ways to accept his "human" nature. This leads to a sometimes conflicting appearance of traits.
When he is on duty, or anything pertaining to work on the ship he is assigned to, Serranstivlen will remain in a state of cold-logic. He will work, and operate, as any proper Vulcan should. Conversations are limited to the expressing of ideas with peers or superiors.
When off duty, Serranstivlen will openly engage in conversation. He is by no means "closed" or "anti-social". Around individuals he trusts, he will openly express emotion, if such occasion warrants it. Often times, he will allow most people he comes into conversation with to call him, "Serran", as typically his name his hard to pronounce in full.
An interesting mix of obscurity, Serranstivlen has made logs to Starfleet Councilors stating his philosophy on life. Growing up on Earth, with a Vulcan mother and a Human father, drastically altered his future perception of the world. While he appreciates his ancestry as a Vulcan, his prize lays with following the dream of his parents when they first met. They had dreamed to come together as one whole, to create a new life, with new hope. Instead of fighting one side for the other, Serranstivlen chooses to mingle with both, appreciating diversity of his combined Human/Vulcan ancestry.
|Strengths & Weaknesses||STRENGTHS:
-Capable of extended periods of stoic behavior, and able to concentrate on tasks at hand with a keen precision of duty.
-Loyal to the objectives and mission of Starfleet. He sees himself as a living evolution of this diverse mission.
-Capable of comprehending various subjects, and applying them in interesting ways. He enjoys anything to do with how a ship functions.
-Despite being half-Vulcan, Serranstivlen embraces his human side equally. This can lead to some "interesting" results.
-Not fully trained in the Vulcan arts of discipline (mostly by choice). He refuses to undertake Kolinahr.
-Has never underwent Pon Farr, as of yet. It is speculated he is not capable of it.
|Ambitions||To visit the planet of his mothers Ancestors, Vulcan, and explore the the culture. Fear of rejection and segregation typically Serranstivlen from undertaking this journey.
To eventually meet up with all of his old crewmates on the Nautilus once again, having found them worthy of his friendship.
|Hobbies & Interests||Serranstivlen typically enjoys reading and writing as a hobby. He is an avid geologist on the side, and typically enjoys cataloging findings pertaining to such. In recent years, he has become an avid historian, enjoying mixing and matching his skills in geology to ascertain dates and findings with ancient cultures; becoming an avid Historian perhaps a better term.|
|Personal History||Serranstivlen was born to Henry Philips and S'Trevi on August 10th, 2358 (Stardate 35606.15), in a small down in rural Mississippi in the Old United States. His early life was spent between a split-education of both Vulcan and Human methods, wherein his parents would eventually home-school him until his late teens. He made very little friends other than those around the neighborhood and township he lived, with the majority being of non-Vulcan decent. Finding out at an early age this combined Human/Vulcan ancestry was frowned upon, Serranstivlen rejected this, and the initial teachings of his Vulcan heritage, to find his own way to understand his life.
Upon the encouragement of both of his parents, at the age of sixteen(16) he applied for Starfleet Academy. He hopes and aspirations for the future were high, seeing the successful marriage his mother and father had, and the dream of finding a way to mesh his combined heritages was held tight within his heart.
On February 10th, 2374 (Stardate 51105.32), Serranstivlen was accepted in Starfleet Academy, and he immediately set his sights on courses dealing with mechanics and engineering, the very same type of concepts introduced to him by his Father back home.
Taking a liking to the courses in Starfleet, he excelled, and on March 14th, 2378 (Stardate 55198.25) he graduated as Ensign with full honors. He would be stationed on the Miranda-class U.S.S. Nautilus (NCC-31910), and be placed in the Engineering Department as a Warp Core Specialist.
His duty on board the U.S.S. Nautilus was not eventual. He made a few close friends, including two NCO's whom he found a liking to - the then-NCO Gregory Paladin and his cohort in crime, Oscar Vladinchi. Serranstivlen would gain valuable insight from the two, including their exploits during the Dominion War. He would also gain valuable experience on his a starship worked, functioned, and operated. Taking their lessons to heart, he was soon recognized by his Department Head, and on September 10th, 2381 (Stardate 58691.40) he would be promoted to Lieutenant, Junior Grade. His new position would be Engineer's Mate, assisting with a variety of tasks.
Time would go on, and after several more years and further study into the inner workings of a Miranda-class Starship, he would leave the U.S.S. Nautilus with a rank of Lieutenant, a promotion given just weeks from his departure in the year 2388.
